It started with one cold chair.
Every winter, Mark watched the same scene play out at his parents’ farmhouse in Minnesota. His mom would settle into her reading chair by the window, pull two blankets over her knees, and ask someone to turn the thermostat up. The furnace would roar to life and heat nine empty rooms so she could stay warm in one.
So he bought her a space heater. Then another. One had a coil that glowed orange two feet from her afghan. One had a fan so loud she couldn’t hear the TV. One promised to heat “1,000 square feet” and barely warmed her feet. The last one quit after six weeks.
He couldn’t find one he trusted next to her chair. So he started a company to sell only the ones he would.
